The Band

My friend M asked me: Do you want to go see this band with me?

Which one? I don't know new and local bands here or anywhere--I don't follow them. So the question does not mean to filter and judge, just a natural reaction.

"Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide". I do know this band, though. It is D's favorite band.

I hesitated, I am not sure whether D will be there too. I don't want him to feel followed by me like that if he is going to be there. The city could be small sometime, although so far it is just too vast, for me.

"Yes. I will go." I am going to see Eef Barzelay, finally.

It is at Mercury Lounge. That space feels right. I was there for the first time. I like the Irish girl before Eef Barzelay as well.

But I did not expect Eff Barzelay to be that gentle and intellectual looking man with glasses and a wedding band on his finger, or such good guitar playing and song writing and exploded passion and energy.

"A false start, an unlikely stop I’m not convinced of anything I say Fill me with your light I will not make a sound Always throw the fight And take it lying down "

That is the second song, tears streaming out of my eyes. I was wiping them with my fingers. I was sitting against the wall in the front, in the dark, and he is 5 meters from me. And I cried, and felt overwhelmed with feelings. I felt I know D better.

That lyrics is right for people like us.

My friend leaned over, said: Sorry I should know this will get you cry. "No, I am glad I came."

After the performance, people left quickly. Couple of them lingerd. I did too. I stayed and walked up to him after he shook hands with some other greeters.

I said: I realy love it. Thank you. Now give me a hug.

He said: Hug, but no drug.

"None asked".

He held me tight. My fingers felt his shoulder. At that moment, I was feeling him and thanking him for writting those words that touched you and that touched me, bringing me closer to you.

I then bought each of all his band's CD that is on sale there, but he did not bring You Were A Diamond.

That is an old album, maybe he did not need to promote them anymore. He is focusing on the new songs. Everyone is moving on.

And I am just a new fan.

Fill Me With Your Light

A true seduction’s what it is
The parts are neither hers nor his
I would prefer you don’t remove your gloves
The instruments shaped like a pear
The inside lined with rabbit hair
If you squint your eyes
it seems to fit

Fill me with your light
I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down

If you wear the mermaid’s suit
There’ll be no sliding down your chute
My sailors left to flounder in your wake
See the bubble, it goes pop
A false start, an unlikely stop
I’m not convinced of anything I say
Fill me with your light
I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down

There’s a different kind of dark
The kind that stops the dogs to bark
It never has to wait for setting suns
Inside the egg finds pantyhose
And holds ‘em right up to your nose
The energy must somehow be absorbed
Fill me with your light

I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down
